Miami County Sheriff Charles Cox announces the deploymentof a tactical armored vehicle that will be used by the Miami County SRT Team when armed suspects are involved, tactical entry is required or individuals are barricaded.
The Sheriff's Office obtained this vehicle from the Vandalia Police Department. Sheriff Cox saw a value in this vehicle which was in need of major repair. An area mechanic, Gene Osborne, accepted the task of making the vehicle operational.
The vehicle was stripped down to the shell, rebuilt and put in to service for use by the SRT team in late 2010. Mr. Osborne and Captain Cooper were able to obtain some donated parts and services from area businesses. Any cost associated to rebuild this vehicle was paid for by convicted drug dealers and not the taxpayers of Miami County.
The restoration of this vehicle will allow our SRT team to be a little safer when performing emergency services for the citizens of Miami County.
